Heucheras x 19
The long bed at the top of the garden has four large conifers together with a magnificent backdrop of trees from a Nursing Home at the back of the garden. As can be seen from the 'Azaleas' page we had planted 5 Azaleas but hadn't decided what else would go in that bed.
We bought our first Heuchera from Heucheraholics at Gardeners' World Live at the NEC, Birmingham in June 2011. We visited their stand again at the Southport Flower Show in August 2011 when we found out that they were due to have an Open Day in September 2011 and so decided to pay them a visit at their nurseries in Southampton. We hadn't looked at Heucheras previously but when we went to their nurseries we were amazed at the number of varieties and colours that were available. Needless to say, we decided to purchase some with a view to planting them in the same bed as the Azaleas.
Heucherella is a hybrid of Heuchera and Tiarella.
2013
Over the winter of 2012/13 we lost 3 plants – Heuchera 'Geisha's Fan, Heucherella 'Stoplight' and Tiarella 'Pacific Crest'. We thought we had lost a couple more but, after, cutting them right back at the beginning of May, they started to blossom.
2014
I am pleased to say that we haven't lost any plants over the 2013/14 winter and, in March 2014, we added a further 4 to our collection – plus another one in April 2014!
